When I read this article I thought that this was fantastic news. My nine year old son Jack was diagnosed with epilepsy a year ago, and it was really hard to explain to him and my other children what was happening to him. With books like this he will be able to understand his condition better and hopefully won’t feel like a freak, plus his brothers and sister will learn from them too.

Yeah, I agree,my son is only 6 but he already has fish and nut allgeries, as well as asthma. Kids understand things when they are enjoying themselves at the same time, so when he’s a bit older this will be really helpful for me to explain it to him.

This all sounds very interesting… Its about time they start making medical education more accessible to children. The lack of information that is available for children that have just been diagnosed with an illness is immense… My eldest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (about 2 years ago) and as if it wasnt heartbreaking enough to have to see your child deal with something like that…There was no real way for me to explain the illness to her at all. It was like she was given a diagnosis and a set of instructions to live her life by but had no idea about why she had to and what the consequences were if she didnt… Comic books like these wouldnt only help a child and the parents through something like that..But also educate their friends too. This would reduce the danger of having to send your kids to a school full of children that know nothing about their illness and worse, how to deal with it if something serious happens.
Definitely looking forward to see where this project leads to.

I remember when my daughter was in infants school and one of her classmates was diagnosed with lukemia. The other children had no idea what was going on, and my daughter even thought she had to stay away from him so she herself didn’t get sick. Books like these will help educate children. They need to be taught about these things properly because even if they don’t get sick they will know someone like a relative or school friend who will.
