Growing up with a part time Dad

When I look around myself in this day and age it seems such a pity to see so many broken homes and single parents, my heart really breaks for the children stuck in the middle of divorce battles. Children being asked by total strangers as to who they would rather stay with mum or dad.  Yet all the kid’s heart will be screaming for is to be with both and not to have to make that choice.

Whether it be in this time or twenty five years from now the scenario still remains the same, the real victims always have and always will be the children.

Myself and my brother were victims of the same fate, we grew up with our father weaving in and out of our life as and when it pleased him.  Emotionally and financially it was our mother who supported us, but no matter how hard she tried and bless her she tried, it could never make up for the big void in our life that only a dad can fill.

To be fair my brother must have felt it more not having a father figure who he could look up to and say hey some day I wanna be like my dad. Missing out on all the things a father does with his son, playing football, going out to the movies etc.

If anything you  grow up feeling  bitter and incomplete, we never wanted for anything financially our mother took good care of us both and worked all hours that god sent and we will always love and respect her for that.

As for our father, he is a part of our life now because he now has the time to spend with us, but it will never be the same.  He is the one person who should have been there for us, yet now as he gets older we are the children he now needs to feel complete, what a joke eh.

The one lesson this has taught both me and my husband is to value our kids and always be there for them no matter what happens.

Your children need your love and attention, not the latest toys or gadgets that have just come on the market, they need to feel loved and cared for and part of a FAMILY.
